A place to call home
Whether originally from the greater Milwaukee area, or having relocated here, all University School of Milwaukee faculty and staff call Milwaukee home. And as its own community, USM—with a total employee count of nearly 250 individuals—is a place people tend to stay at. For the 2023–24 school year, USM has 40 teachers, administrators, and staff that have been at the school for more than 20 years!

Promoting from within
Every year, like almost every organization, the USM community celebrates several retirees and says farewell to other teachers and staff moving to new roles across the country. Even when USM promotes from within its own ranks (for example, in the summer of 2023, nine current employees were hired for elevated positions as internal applicants), those individuals leave roles open that still need to be filled.
Selling Milwaukee to prospective employees
Although our own employee community understands what a special place USM is to work, we continuously look to recruit new employees from far and wide, sometimes conducting national searches for roles, and although many of the individuals looking at these positions may know of our school’s national reputation for student success, they may not yet be convinced that Milwaukee is the right place for their next career opportunity. With that in mind, USM has developed more intentional plans to sell not only our great school, but also the greater Milwaukee community, to prospective teachers, administrators, and staff.
